Episode 7: Minisode Yo!

This is our first minisode. Due to the fact that we will be out of town for the next week we wanted to go ahead and get an update out. We cover the patch notes for update 1.3 and also the first hotfix. And yes that crazy sound at the beginning of the episode was left there intentionally by Fitzpatrick. Oddly enough it is myself making some sort of weird noises for sound check. Hehe! Anyways, enjoy the minisode yo! :)

"Waves of Madness" - Update 1.3 Arrives Tomorrow!!

Well folks, the time is upon us. Update 1.3 will arrive tomorrow! Who's excited?! Ok, obviously I am. The 2 hour downtime waiting for it is going to be painful but we'll survive. So, you've heard what all is coming...what are you most excited for?

Also, you can now follow us on Twitter @got_podcast. :)

Happy Rifting!

-Allison <3

P.S. - Check out this freakin' awesome new reward mount from the events!! He's so ugly but I want him anyway!! =D

Invasion from the Plane of... Sound?

Starting Tuesday next week through Friday me and Allison will be part of what is a yearly tradition for myself. Outside of Podcasting, gaming and working like a regular joe I also travel a bit under the name Fitzpatrick (big shocker) as a dj / electronic music producer. Most of the music I create / play out live is in the neighborhood of electro house, progressive house, breaks and all that goodness.

Come next week I will be joined by my epic raid team of djs, producers, visual effects, and sound team which will work together to take down the boss of the After Hours Stage. Hosted by www.tastyfresh.com and www.mk837.com records, with sound by www.harmonynet.net (which is totally legendary) and visual effects by our mad scientist Jeremy Kadinger this yearly stage at the Cornerstone Music festival is always one to turn heads and move feet.

I will be playing on the 30th the closing slot for the night at the Afterhours Stage. Which is funny how it all timed out because Allison's birthday is also on the 30th. So be sure to send her some bday wishes!

We will get back to the podcast as soon as we get home and can get it together, but until then if you are a fan of electronic music of any kind head over to www.whoisfitzpatrick.com and check out the link to my latest album "Steam Powered Space Train".

Adult Swim - The Guild

Belmont Guardians RIFT (PVE) - Velen Alliance WOW (PVE)

So Me and Allison have been discussing opening Adult Swim to our audience to join along in our guild And well, we have finally come to a point where we have decided that answer is yes. Due to the fact that I am currently way too busy to be part of a raid team or any serious progression guild we'd rather be at home with people we know and like.

Adult Swim of Belmont is a casual / social guild at this time. We will be working towards t1/t2 dungeons, expert rifts and raid rifts. Raids will also be possible but until we get our numbers up it will be more of a pug in a few type situation. Otherwise we just want to enjoy our time in Telara and progress together. As we move along if anyone is interested in leading a raid group for us we will be behind it 100%, we just dont currently have the time.

If you are interested in joining up just let me Fitzpatrick / Fitzbenni or Arial on Belmont (PVE) know and we can toss you an invite. If you are waiting for the shard transfers to go live soon then just drop us a line, we'd love to know people are on their way soon as its live.

We are not looking for any classes in particular, but the great thing about Rift is.. You can change that around later :)

Which Hot Pants to Choose....Decisions....

Ok so, with the start of the new wardrobe feature. Allison decided that she wanted to fight in scantily clad underwear rather than armor that doesn't match. I have to match, geez! So I'm looking to you guys for help. I've dyed the rogue starting gear so that's it's a pretty pink color! (I love pink!!!) I just can't decide which bottoms to choose. I need your help! Fitz doesn't have a preference. Typical fiancé response. = P

  So we have totally pink!

Or brown like the top is with pink just around the top of the hotpants!

It's the decision of.....well.....today! Help me decide!!! Which is cuter?!

Episode 5: We're Back!!

Yeah, I'm a little slow but here it is. Episode 5 went up on May 18th. In this episode we talk about 1.2 patch notes and a lot of them! We also go over the LFG system. Enjoy the show!

A Real Life Air Invasion.. but no laughing matter

Its been a bit of a delay since our last blog post and podcast. Reason being is that we are in Alabama. A state which has been severely effected by an outbreak of tornadoes which passed through last week. These massive storms spawned tornadoes all day and night, some of which as large as ef5, wiped several communities off the map, and claimed nearly 500 lives over 6 states. We were lucky to have the tail end of it miss us by just a few miles.

If you are feeling at all burdened to help others who are in need, please direct your attention to http://www.alredcross.org/ the Alabama Chapter of the Red Cross. Many people are without homes, food,
clothing and direction. Please help make their recovery easier.

We will get back to it this weekend and should have a new episode of Guardians of Telara up by Sunday,
until then, be safe.

This is War.. But I'm not Picking Sides

The other day while logged in Rift I came across a player that expressed he was unwilling to play in a "split guild". Meaning a guild where players both play Rift and Wow. It brought up a hot button topic for me and made me crack up. I understand that MMO players are very passionate about the games they play, I mean we have to be if we are going to spend as much time as we do leveling, gearing, rep grinding and organizing groups. But one thing I wish people would stop doing is the whole my game vs your game deal.

When I started playing MMO games I still played many other games especially console and other pc games. Some of my favorite games are Metroid, Halo, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Starcraft, Red Alert, and much more. I don't pick sides. I have been enjoying Rift ever since beta and do believe I will stick with it for a long time. Trion has a great dev team and I see that staying the same moving forward. But I wouldn't let my enjoyment of one game be ruined just because other people like to play other games too. Its nice to have options on what to do so I dont get completely burnt out in one place.

That is one thing I think us as MMO players tend to do is we play and play the game we love all day, all night and all weekend and eventually we get bored with the current content. Eventually a new patch or expansion comes out and its all good, new stuff to do. But sometimes those patches don't come fast enough and people start to blame the devs for not giving us enough to do.

Well here is my suggestion.. Leave your client open so you can chat with you guild and go play some xbox or ps3 or whatever. Don't just wrap up your entire gaming life (or entire real life) into one game, because if you do chances are you will be sorely let down. I'd love to see MMO companies make a smaller client that you can run while playing other games. That basically allows you to run the guild chat client while you are running another game. I know they do not want to break the immersion of their game by doing such but I would be interested to see if it keeps their subscriptions even after people have cleared all their current content. Me personally I would be inclined to keep my sub even if I am not playing as much since I would be able to chit chat with my mates.

It doesn't have to be about choosing sides, but rather being open to try new things people. I know that is the biggest reason MMO players from other games have not tried Rift. Its not the money, its not the time, its that they feel "at home" where they are. Why do we have to choose sides? Why can't we just take our friends wherever we go no matter what game we are playing.

Queue's no more

Just as expected after adding many more servers it appears the queue's have come way down. This shot was taken about 11am and all the servers were low pop. Just 2 hours later things were starting to pick up. For all the yelling and screaming people had over the whole mess it has gotten much easier to get in, just as we thought. Like any other MMO come the evening time we see servers at high/full pop and just a few people in the queue's.

But can you go too far? Part of the excitement at times is being in line to go to the big party. I would actually like to have seen just a few less servers opened on launch and then more added as needed. No one wants to show up to a party with just a few people. This is what happened with other mmos in the past and they had to later consolidate servers. I don't for see that fate for Rift at this time, I only see things going up. But its interesting to keep a watch.

Anticipation.... t-minus 10 minutes to launch

Today is the day folks. Rift goes live in just a few minutes, what does the future hold for this MMO over the next few days? Who knows.. During head start their was such a high demand for this game that servers have pretty much been full the entire time, and from what I've seen on my server people are really happy with the game. Trion is adding about 30 more servers worldwide today to accommodate those people who have foolishly waited for its release (or maybe we are just bigger nerds).

It is my recommendation that if you dont have a specific group of folks you currently like to play with on a specific server, then reroll on a new low pop server. I am confident they will fill up again very quick. And if this game goes where I think it will we will be seeing huge population influxes over the next 6 months as people get in, play it, and tell their friends about it.

Several friends of ours have been stubborn to try rift, or if they have they haven't yet given it a solid shot. I know its hard to look at playing a new game and investing all that time but if you haven't played it you need to give it a shot. I've also heard people use terms such as "I'm cheating" on my mmo, which I find hilarious. But when you have spent the last 4 years playing a particular game I can see where it would sort of feel like that. I predict that in the next 3-6 months you will see many of those sitting on the fence will be coming over to Telara and checking it out.

Level cap already? Freakin' nerds...

Last night on the Belmont server we had our shard first on level cap. It is always interesting to see nerds cut down other nerds over a game they are both playing. From what I've heard level cap has been met on other servers and this does not surprise me a bit. Too bad its gonna be lonely at the top. I am fairly sure at this point in head start that the main population of Rift is sitting around lvl 20-35 or so.

I am curious to see how quickly guilds that have moved from other games into rift will hit level cap and then move into the raid content. This may take a little while as people play at different speeds and finding all the proper players / classes takes a while, but I don't see it taking too long. After talking to many of my fellow guild mates in WOW we are all curious how "fun" the end game content will be. So far all I have done is Realm of the Fae, but for a first dungeon I have to say it was very entertaining. We'll just all have to get to level cap and check the raid encounters out, but until then its all speculation.

I'm in!

Many people have been complaining on the forums and the facebook page about the server que right after head start has gone live. This should be expected like any other MMO that the first day / several weeks the servers might have issues. Rift has sold 1million Pre Order games, which means potentially that many people could be logging in on the same time. So if your pissed about waiting, get over it. It will get better with time, I dont know of any MMO that has not gotten better. Our wait between two accounts was 45 minutes for one and 1:10 for the other. But as they open new servers it will get much better.

Come on Shards!

Its been a minute since we've been excited to the point of counting the minutes till servers (or shards) in a game go live. Even though both of us have a day job we will be at least popping in on our break to roll our toons and get our names saved. You never know when someone else wants the same name. It will be interesting to see what the rush is like in game. With launches before I've seen questing hubs so covered up you can't even hardly click on the npc, I'm sure this will be no different in some ways since the excitement for this game is so high. But it may not be quite as a bad with the head start. Then again it is very possible that a large portion of the player base that was in the beta is treating the head start like launch day like we are. Here come the rifts!
